Awkward situation - turning down a session

Miranda and I have a rule - we both have to '"feel" right about someone before we book a session with them. A little background will help. First of all, we only play with people we like and trust. The majority of people we play with we know from meeting at parties, weekend events etc. Occasionally, a "friend" of someone we know will contact us saying they were refered to us by their buddy. We verify the referral and we question others who might know this person. Then we ALWAYS verify personal information that the person provides and we ALWAYS meet the person for coffee before we arrange for a future session. That way, the person gets to see us and we get to see them, look in their eyes and see if it's a good fit.

We went through this familiar process this past week. The person interested in booking a session with us was referred by a friend we like and admire. We vetted the person's information and met for coffee. I thought he was ok. Not great but ok. Miranda said she couldn't pinpoint it but she said she felt a not so great vibe. Whenever there is any doubt, we don't book the session.

When we told the person in a follow up phone call that we wouldn't be booking with them, they were angry. We were very respectful and professional. They contacted our friend who referred them to us and ranted that we were snobs and a few other choice words. Anyone who knows Miranda and I knows we are anything but snobs. But we're doing this for fun and we'll NEVER do anything that isn't fun for us both and the person we're roleplaying with. We explained the situation to our friend and he understood.

This screening process probably doesn't make sense from a business standpoint but we're in this more for the fun and experiences than the money.
